The phrase reads, "Idza sohhal hadith fahuwa madzhabi" (If the hadith is valid, then that is my school of thought).This expression which is attributed -with its various editorials- to almost all the Imams of the Madzhab, is often used by some circles as a sword ready to be drawn against anyone -the muqallids- who openly practice the teachings of certain schools of fiqh.
In the view of the wielder of the "sword", the teachings of the school are clearly "contradictory" to the valid hadith that he just found out.
In their view, -according to the expression above- the Imams school of thought must have followed the hadith, and not as practiced by the muqallid.1.
Simplistic MeaningThis kind of simplistic view usually arises from those who have perhaps never read the background of fiqh and its various differences.
Even how the above expression should be interpreted, they no longer want to care.
In an overly simplistic view of this matter, they would usually ask; The meaning of this phrase is quite clear, what else do you want it to mean?Even though in reality the scholars who understand much more, have traced and have explored the ins and outs of the schools of thought, apparently do not interpret the above expression as they mean it.
